Peace Assalamo Alaikum
(Peace be with you) Tasawwuf is the science of ultimate success. It is
the knowledge that develops sincerity and sanctifies a person. Tasawwuf is
the essence (core) of Islam. It is a
command of Allah and His last Messenger (Peace be upon him) that every person
must seek purification / sanctification for his/her self. One of the major responsibilities of
Allah’s Messenger, Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon
him) is to purify people. The source of
Tasawwuf is Qur’an and Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him). For the knowledge of Tasawwuf, Qur’an uses
the word “ZAKA” (MUZAKKI, ZAKKAHA, YUZAKKEEHIM, ETC...). Therefore, Tasawwuf,
in Qur’anic terms, is called “TAZKIYAH”. قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَن زَكَّاهَا وَقَدْ
خَابَ مَن
دَسَّاهَا Truly he succeeds that purifies it
(self), And he fails that corrupts it
(self)! (Surah
Al Shams, verses 9 &10) A person who
practices the science of Tasawwuf is called Sufi. A Sufi who teaches and
guides people in practicing Tasawwuf is called “Murshad” (spiritual guide).
The student of a Murshad is called Mureed (follower). Any person who
claims or recognized as Sufi but does not obey the teachings of Qur’an and
Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is not a Sufi. The person is a
liar and a thief of EEMAAN (Faith). In the western
world, people use the word “Sufism” for Tasawwuf. We purposely do not use the word Sufism
because many Muslims think that the Sufism is like other “isms” such as
communism, socialism, capitalism, etc. They consider Sufism an outsider and
call it distortion (BID’A) in Islam. However, many thieves of EEMAAN, under
the disguise of Sufis have distorted the teachings of Tasawwuf (Sufism) and
created many cults and businesses that have created huge misunderstandings
about Tasawwuf. Any belief, practice
or claim that is not according to the teachings of Qur’an and the teachings
of Prophet Muhammad
(Peace be upon him) (Shari’a Al-Islamiyah)
must not be called Tasawwuf. It must be condemned. Every human has two
dimensions, physical and spiritual (external and internal). In Islam, the laws governing the appearance
of an individual or a community are called “Shari’a”
and the laws governing the intentions, thoughts and minds are called
“TAZKIYAH” (Tasawwuf). The duality in
ZAAHIR (external) and BAATIN (internal) is called NIFAAQ (hypocrisy) in
Islam. Tasawwuf helps in bringing a positive unity between ZAAHIR and BAATIN. A Muslim has three
levels of Faith;
Tasawwuf is the ONLY
vehicle that takes a person to the state of EHSAAN. A KAMIL (true) Murshad is
the driver of that vehicle and the Mureedeen (followers) are the passengers
of that vehicle. A true Murshad helps
his Mureedeen to reach to the state of EHSAAN. A true Murshad
exhibits through his behaviour complete obedience
to Allah and His messenger, Muhammad (peace be upon
him). A sincere Mureed imitates his/her Murshad who in fact, imitates Prophet
Muhammad (Peace be upon him). Insha Allah (God willing), this website will
provide you the teachings of Tasawwuf in its pure form based upon the
teachings of Qur’an and the teachings of Sayyadul Anmbiya, Imam-ul-Asfiya, Hazrat Muhammad Mustufa ( |
